The newest addition to the Vaporfly family is better than ever and set to debut in July at eastbay.com. Though some of the features from the 4% were kept in this model, there are plenty of new elements to mention.
How Much is “NEXT%”?
NEXT% is somewhere above 4 percent but below 5 percent, and that percent represents the increased efficiency you’ll experience running in these shoes.
Made for Marathoners
Nothing is stopping the average Joe from buying this shoe, but it was designed for marathon runners with hopes that they’ll strive to conquer the “impossible” – running 26.2 miles in under 2 hours.
Influenced by Professionals
Nike knows that to create the best you must use the best. So, with the expertise of professional athletes, scientists, and engineers Nike created a shoe to help you shave time off your marathon pace.

From the Updated Upper
The Vaporfly NEXT% introduces a new material for the upper called Vaporweave. Vaporweave was created with the intent to absorb less liquid than the Flyknit material used in the Vaporfly 4%. So your feet stay dry and comfortable during long runs. Because it’s not enough for your shoes to just be comfortable when you put them on before the race. An hour into your run you still want to feel as comfortable as possible. So in addition to the newly introduced Vaporweave, the new version of the Vaporfly features off-center laces to reduce pressure along the top of your foot. The tongue is also shaped to lay smoothly against your foot for reduced friction.
Down to the Detailed Sole
By using the traction patterns of pro runners, Nike was able to create a unique sole pattern that increases forefoot grip and is better for running on wet surfaces.

But wait! There’s more…
As in 15 percent more ZoomX foam in the midsole compared to the last model, so that you can get ultimate energy-return while running. And what’s even better is that with this extra foam, the shoe weight remains the same as the Vaporfly 4%. By decreasing the heel-drop by 3mm (from 11mm to 8mm) and adding the super lightweight Vaporweave material, Nike managed to offset the weight.
